Why Locals Love Jiangsu Club

Nestled on the second floor of the Alliance Building in the bustling heart of Sheung Wan, Jiangsu Club invites diners to indulge in an authentic Shanghainese culinary journey. This refined Chinese restaurant expertly crafts traditional Jiangsu and Shanghai dishes that delight both the eye and palate, set within an ambiance that beautifully balances timeless elegance with modern comfort.

The menu at Jiangsu Club is a celebration of classic flavors and meticulous technique. Begin your meal with exquisite appetizers such as the Caviar Sea Salt Smoked Egg—a luxurious blend of smoky richness and delicate briny notes that instantly captivate. For something lighter yet equally satisfying, the Dried Tofu with Shanghainese Wild Vegetable offers a refreshing texture and subtle earthiness, while Drunken Chicken boasts a tender, aromatic profile that lingers pleasantly on the tongue.

Seafood lovers will find bliss in expertly prepared dishes like the Deep-Fried Baby Yellow Fish with Salt and Pepper, where a crispy, golden exterior perfectly encases tender, flavorful flesh. The Stir-Fried River Shrimps, available plain or with the delicate, fragrant touch of Dragon Well tea, elevate each bite with a harmonious balance of freshness and umami. Not to be missed are the Braised Prawns in Sweet Chilli Sauce and Deep-Fried Prawns with Chilli Sauce, each bursting with vibrant, bold flavors that awaken the senses.

Jiangsu Club’s dim sum selection is a testament to craftsmanship and tradition. The Jasmine Steamed Egg Custard Buns offer a silken, fragrant custard that melds softness and sweet creaminess in every bite, while the Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings impress with their golden crust and juicy, savory filling. For an intriguing twist, the Deep-Fried Pork Floss, Seaweed and Sesame Roll delivers a delightful crunch accented by an addictive blend of flavors.

The restaurant’s atmosphere is equally compelling. Inspired by classical Chinese courtyards, the interiors evoke a serene and sophisticated charm. The main dining room's subtle lighting and soft carpets create a quiet sanctuary amid Hong Kong’s urban energy, ensuring an intimate dining experience even during busy lunch hours. Customers praise the attentive and warm service, noting how it complements the polished surroundings and enhances the overall visit.

Reviews consistently highlight the exquisite quality and generous portions of Jiangsu Club’s dishes. Guests recount enjoying the rich, aromatic soups, the perfectly executed crispy soy chicken with its tantalizingly crisp skin, and the masterful balance of spice and sweetness in the chili prawns. The availability of private rooms adds a luxurious touch for those seeking a more exclusive dining experience, ideal for celebrations or business gatherings.

Whether you’re a devoted fan of Jiangsu and Shanghai cuisine or an adventurous diner seeking an authentic, elevated meal in Sheung Wan, Jiangsu Club promises a memorable feast where tradition, flavor, and ambiance converge beautifully.

I recently visited a popular Shanghai cuisine restaurant near Sheung Wan MTR station for lunch. The meal started with flavorful appetizers and refreshing cold dishes like Zhenjiang cured meat and smoked egg with caviar. The Yunnan mushroom and chicken soup was rich and aromatic, while main dishes such as kung pao prawns, cherry pork, and crispy fish fillet were all well-executed. The signature soup dumplings were juicy and satisfying. A light white fungus dessert rounded off the enjoyable meal.

Stepping into Jiangsu Club is an experience in itself. The restaurant’s sophisticated design, inspired by traditional Chinese courtyards, evokes a timeless elegance. Whether in the main dining space or one of the eight private rooms, guests are treated to an intimate yet opulent setting perfect for savoring the artistry of the menu. For this visit, I booked a private room, an absolute game-changer for families with young kids. The space was perfect for my baby to crawl around safely, giving us a relaxed dining experience without worrying about disruptions. With a private bathroom and lounge area, it made everything incredibly convenient, from quick clean-ups to easy diaper changes. The setup allowed us to enjoy our meal in comfort while ensuring my little one had room to move freely. Jiangsu Club’s menu is a celebration of refined flavors and expert techniques, where every dish showcases skillful execution and thoughtfully curated ingredients. Among the highlights: Caviar Sea Salt Smoked Egg– The smokiness adds a beautiful depth to the dish, enhancing the richness of the perfectly soft, flavorful yolk. Fresh Abalone with Hangzhou Chilli– A masterful balance of tender texture and bold spice, with the numbing sensation creating an unforgettable taste experience. Deep-Fried Twin Baby Yellow Fish– Exceptionally crispy, meaty, and irresistibly delicious, yet impressively light and non-greasy. Braised Fish Maw in Homemade Sauce– One of the best renditions of fish maw soup, deeply rich in flavor, delivering a comforting yet luxurious taste. Stir-Fried River Shrimp– Delicate, fresh, and beautifully cooked, showcasing the natural sweetness of the shrimp. Steamed Cod with Huadiao Wine– The cod is melt-in-your-mouth tender, perfectly complemented by the aromatic Huadiao wine. Dried Farm Vegetables with Braised Pork Knuckle– A signature dish that is packed with bold, comforting flavors, a true delight, especially when paired with plain rice. Scallion Pancakes & Steamed Xiao Long Bao – Handmade daily, these dim sum selections are a must-try, delivering freshness and exquisite taste in every bite. From the depth of smoky eggs to the crisp perfection of fried yellow fish, every dish at Jiangsu Club speaks to the restaurant’s philosophy of elevating tradition with exceptional quality. Whether for a grand celebration or an intimate gathering, this establishment remains a must-visit for those seeking the finest expressions of Chinese culinary excellence.

Jiangsu Club is a Chinese restaurant hidden in an unnoticeable commercial building in Sheung Wan. The main dining room with a rather low ceiling is bright and elegant. It is not too noisy even during the busy lunch hour, possibly because the carpet helps absorbing the sound. Servers are friendly, hardworking and accommodating. Although a bit on the expensive side, the traditional Jiangsu cuisine is of good quality and delicious. Highlight of the lunch is definitely the exquisite Braised Shark’s Fin with Supreme Chicken Sauce (Original Price HK$498/person), which costs HK$268/person during the promotional period between 6th to 19th January, 2025! Highly recommend the crispy Scallion Pancake (HK$78), the delicate Steamed Xiao Long Bao (HK$88/four pcs), and the crunchy Deep-Fried Glutinous Rice Dumplings with Dragon Fruit Sauce (HK$88/four pcs).

The environment is great. And the dishes are all in great quality. From appetizers, main dishes, dim sum to dessert, all are very satisfying. The portion is generous and service is great. I particularly enjoying their soup and xia long bao, and the pan fried buns are delicious too. And the sesame tong Yuen is so rich in taste, yummy.

This place offers an exceptional Shanghainese dining experience. The crispy soy chicken was a highlight—its perfectly crispy skin was unexpected, and the meat was incredibly tender. The chili prawns were another standout, with a sauce that was beautifully balanced and flavorful. The ambiance was elegant yet inviting, and the service was attentive without being overbearing. A wonderful spot for anyone who loves refined Shanghainese cuisine.

Jiangsu Club is truly a hidden gem in Sheung Wan! The ambiance is elegant yet welcoming, making it the perfect spot for an elevated Chinese dining experience. I recently tried their Sichuan Culinary Odyssey pop-up, and it was beyond incredible—a true celebration of Sichuan flavors without being overwhelmingly spicy. The standout dishes for me were the steamed lobster, which was unbelievably fresh and tender, and the twice-cooked pork, which had the perfect balance of crispiness and rich, savory flavor. Every dish was crafted with so much detail, showcasing authentic techniques and bold flavors. On top of the amazing food, the service was attentive and knowledgeable, with staff explaining each dish and recommending the perfect pairings. Whether you’re a Sichuan food lover or just looking for an exceptional Chinese dining experience, this place is a must-visit. Can’t wait to see what they have next!
